Soleil Roberts scored a goal and grabbed three steals for Penn against Florida GRESHAM, Ore. (May 3, 2008) - Deidre Sandrock (Gr., West Lawn, Pa.) scored on an exclusion opportunity with 2:07 left in the fourth period to earn Player of the Game honors and break a 4-4 tie as the No. 10 University of Pennsylvania Quakers clinched a berth in the fifth place with a 5-4 victory over No. 4 University of Florida at the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship. Penn will face either No. 19 Middlebury College or No. 9 the University of California-Los Angeles at 10:15 a.m. on May 4, while the Gators will square off with either the Panthers or Bruins at 9:00 a.m. in the seventh place game. The key to the game was the performance of the goalies as Penn's Elizabeth Lawrence (Sr., Albany, N.Y.) made four saves and Florida's Gina Petrakos (Sr., Windmere, Fla.) blocked away three shots to keep their team's in the game and set-up a defensive struggle highlighted by systematic scoring. Florida lit up the the scoreboard first with 4:13 left in the first period as Victoria Israels (So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) found the back of the cage to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. Penn countered with an exclusion goal by Sheena Curtin (Gr., Salt Lake City, Utah) at the 3:40 mark to tie the game and gained a 2-1 advantage 37 seconds later with another exclusion goal by Sandrock to go in front 2-1 with 3:03 left in the period. The Gators retied the game before the period's horn as Johanna Sierra (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) ripped in a shot with 46 seconds remaining. The Quakers retook the lead and pushed the margin to 4-2 before halftime as Soleil Roberts (Sr., Yardley, Pa.) scored on an exclusion at 4:24 and Sandrock fired in her second goal with 1:37 left in the second period. Florida tied the game up in the third period courtesy a pair of penalty shots as Sierra buried free-throws at 3:41 and 1:14 to knot the score at 4-4 and set up Sandrock's deciding factor in the fourth quarter.
