Atlantic Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Wednesday, April 12, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Sam Bakshandehpour, Georgetown; Robert Kaminsky, Virginia Tech; Scott Beech, Virginia; Matt Freeman, Duke; Todd Peters, Washington & Lee.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Atlantic Division unanimously voted for the 11/3-5 weekend. Washington & Lee also voted for the 10/28 weekend for the Division III Championship.

The dates and sites were confirmed for the fall season, as posted on the web site. The Commissioner indicated that if possible, he would try to split one of the regular season sites into two locations to give more teams a home tournament. That would place JMU hosting one of the earlier weekends during the regular season and Maryland hosting the championships. In this instance, four teams would go to each of the two sites on one of the regular season weekends, with the second weekend involving a crossover between the two regions.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Virginia Tech confirmed their intent to participate and North Carolina and Virginia Commonwealth were also mentioned as possibilities. The Commissioner stated he would get an answer from each of the schools and encouraged the membership to speak to these teams as well.

The No-contest and forfeit policies were explained. Forfeits occur when a team competes with ineligible athletes (i.e. they borrow a player from the opposing team to complete their roster). No-contests occur when a team fails to show for their scheduled game.  Teams responsible for a forfeit lose the right to host a tournament the following year. The penalty for a No-contest is immediate expulsion from the league, payment of all league fees for the year, and suspension from league membership for the following year. In order to ensure these policies are completely understood, a mail ballot was issued in December that proposed a Participation Contract. The ballot was voted on by the membership nationwide and it passed. The new rule requires collegiate club supervisors to sign a Participation Contract that explains the penalties invoked if their team withdraws before the end of the season. A copy of this contract is on the web site. The Commissioner reminded everyone that it must be completed and returned to the office before the end of the academic year.

The Commissioner explained the importance of the Code of Conduct, stressing the need for teams to conduct themselves appropriately. Special emphasis was placed on the need to eliminate any deck changing from occurring in the future. An explanation of the new Red Card rule was made. Individuals receiving a Red Card next season will automatically be suspended from the game they are participating in, in addition to the next CWPA contest.

Officiating issues were discussed and the Commissioner explained the process that coaches must follow in the event that they have a problem with an official. Specifically, all issues must be detailed in writing to the Director of Officials, Tom Tracey. He will address each concern and take appropriate action. It is also the intention to have an evaluation method available via the web site by the fall season. The Commissioner stressed that the author of the comments would be kept confidential.

The Commissioner explained the hotel policy and he requested that teams having a bad experience with a hotel should write a short note to the office so that steps can be taken to either remove the hotel from our lists, or address the problem directly with the hotel.

The Commissioner explained the new policy for inventory sales through tournament hosts. Rather than automatically sending the tournament host a box of inventory for resale, hosts must contact the office prior to the tournament if they would like to receive inventory for resale. This will eliminate unnecessary shipping costs to hosts not interested in selling inventory. There is still the same opportunity for teams to make money and the merchandise left unsold may still be returned without penalty. Someone also recommended that the CWPA print inventory that relates specifically to the Northwest Division, rather than the CWPA as a whole. The Commissioner indicated he would investigate the possibility for the fall season.

The Commissioner reminded all members of their need to provide updated contact information before the end of the academic year. The information should include a summer phone number and address, as well as a fall address and phone number.

Great Plains Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Thursday, April 13, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Tim Daniel, Nebraska; Scott Rogers, Northern Illinois; Sunshine Borrett, Iowa State; Christian Andrews, Western Illinois; Jeff Hupfer, Iowa; Peter Jones, Minnesota; Dave Miller, South Dakota.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Great Plains Division members were divided in their decision, choosing between the second and third weekends.

Tim Daniel made a motion to expand the competition to three weekends. After a second, discussion centered on the trade-off between cost and more competition. The Motion was defeated 4-3 with a request to reconsider again next year (preferably in January). Jeff Hupfer stated that he would try to organize a third weekend of non-conference competition for those teams interested. The Commissioner explained that although league events take precedence in the assignment process, he would do his best to assign officials.

The dates and sites were discussed for the fall season, as posted on the web site. Tim Daniel made a motion that the championship site be all-deep. After much discussion, Jeff Hupfer made a motion to elect the championship site during the annual conference call and to have the regular season site be assigned according to a rotation among the entire membership. It was seconded by Scott Rogers. Motion passed unanimously.

Tim Daniel nominated Minnesota as the 2000 championship site. Jeff Hupfer seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The Commissioner indicated that he would confirm that Minnesota could host on the scheduled date (since the conference call, Minnesota has checked and they will hear sometime after June 1st).

Tim Daniel made a motion that all teams attend one regular season site rather than split into two locations, Peter Jones seconded. Motion passed 4-2. Western Illinois is scheduled to be the host.

Tim Daniel made a motion to move the championship date to October 28-29. Jeff Hupfer seconded. Motion carried 5-1.

Jeff Hupfer made a motion to move the regular season date to October 14-15. Peter Jones seconded. Motion split and defeated.

Scott Rogers made a motion that September 30-October 1st be selected as the regular season date. Tim Daniel seconded. Motion carried 5-1.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Western Kentucky, Washington, Truman State, Illinois State, Missouri at Columbia, and Missouri Rolla were mentioned as possibilities (since the call, Washington University in Missouri has confirmed their participation).

The No-contest and forfeit policies were explained. Forfeits occur when a team competes with ineligible athletes (i.e. they borrow a player from the opposing team to complete their roster). Heartland Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Tuesday, April 11, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Martk Mattuzas, Grinnell; Judy Jenkins, Knox; Bob Pearson, Macalaster; Galen Ward, Carleton; Stephanie Sklaedies, St. Olaf.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Division was unanimous in their choice for the last weekend in October.

The dates and sites were discussed for the fall season. Galen Ward proposed that St. Mary’s switch their date from 9/16-17 to 9/23-24. It was seconded by Judy Jenkins and passed unanimously. The championship date was confirmed for October 7-8 at Grinnell.

A discussion included whether the division should expand to a three-weekend format and the vote was 4-0 against any change at this time, with a desire to reconsider the question next year.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. St. Olaf indicated they were definitely joining. Augustana, St. Johns, St. Benedicts, and Lawrence were all proposed as potential new members.

The Commissioner reminded all members of their need to provide updated contact information before the end of the academic year. The information should include a summer phone number and address, as well as a fall address and phone number.

Bob Pearson wanted to emphasize to each of the hosts that they should make every effort to get shot clocks and game clocks for the event.

Mid Atlantic Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Wednesday, April 12, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner & Villanova; Rebecca Perkins, Drew; Liz Greig, Pennsylvania; Robert Buldoc, Penn State; Roch King, Bloomsburg; Erin Ferer, Millersville; Dave Boyer, West Chester.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Division was split on the date they preferred between the first and second weekend in November. Drew as the Division III institution favored the last weekend in October for the Division III National Championship Date.

The dates and sites were discussed and the teams decided to move the regular season later one week. This will place the first date September 23-24 and the second date October 7 & 8. Consequently, host teams will need to file new pool contracts. The Commissioner also noted that due to the close proximity of the Mid Atlantic Eastern teams to each other, they might schedule a portion of their games on weeknights, if teams desire to do this. He will contact the teams with a potential schedule.

Rob Buldoc made a motion that the championship for the division must be held in an all-deep facility and that the decision is sent to a mail ballot. The championship would change regions on an annual basis, with Penn State being the western regional site and West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Villanova serving as the eastern regional sites (if Widener joins, they would serve as a fourth regional site). If the mail ballot passes, Penn State will serve as the site for this year.

A discussion considered the current alignment of teams and a question was raised by Penn State to see if one of the more experienced teams would be willing to play in the western division. The Commissioner noted that cost and travel were the primary challenges, but that he would pose the question to each of the teams and see if anyone was willing to do so.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Roch King from Bloomsburg noted that his team will probably take part, while Rebecca Perkins from Drew indicated that they were most likely not going to attend this season, but wanted to get involved the following year. Widener, Rutgers, LaSalle, and Swarthmore were also mentioned as possibilities.

The Commissioner reminded all members of their need to provide updated contact information before the end of the academic year. The information should include a summer phone number and address, as well as a fall address and phone number.

Midwest Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Wednesday, April 12, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Doug Reisenfeld, Miami; Jake Wechsel, Toledo; Rahula Strohl, Oberlin; Chad Butzlaff, Ball State; Mike Kuneman, Dayton; Tom Hanna, Western Michigan; Matt Vandeberg, Bowling Green; Egan Sweeney, Ohio; Matt Nicholas, Notre Dame; and Chris Ragheb, Akron.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Division was almost unanimous in their vote for the third weekend in November, with one institution desiring the second weekend. Oberlin as a Division III institution favored the first weekend in November for the Division III National Championship Date.

A discussion included the fact that the Division III National Championship is scheduled for a Midwest site. Oberlin indicated they would check to see if they could host.

The alignment of teams between regions was discussed and Doug Reisenfeld made a motion to move Findlay from the north to the south. Tom Hanna seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

Regarding the rotation of sites for events, Doug Reisenfeld made a motion that we keep the date as the primary determiner rather than the host. Rahula Strohl seconded. Motion carried unanimously. This now means that when an institution is not available to host on a given weekend, the next institution in the rotation is asked to host, rather than moving the date to accommodate the original host. However, if no one is able to host on the original date, the original host gets the first opportunity to host on an alternate date.

The dates and sites were discussed. Doug Reisenfeld made a motion to move the championship date to the last weekend in October. Discussion included two opposing points of view. One centered on the fact that Oberlin would not be able to participate at that date, while another explained that the National Championships were likely to move later and the season is too short. Notre Dame Seconded. The motion was defeated 5-4. The dates were then confirmed for September 15-17, October 6-8, and October 20-22. It was noted that Western Michigan and Toledo would try to switch their scheduled dates to allow WMU the opportunity to host the earlier weekend, since they have a pool conflict in October. The Commissioner noted that all hosts will need to file pool contracts.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Grand Valley State has confirmed their participation and Denison University and Kenyon College were also mentioned as possibilities.

The Commissioner explained the hotel policy and he requested that teams having a bad experience with a hotel should write a short note to the office so that steps can be taken to either remove the hotel from our lists, or address the problem directly with the hotel.

The Commissioner reminded all members of their need to provide updated contact information before the end of the academic year. The information should include a summer phone number and address, as well as a fall address and phone number.

New England and North Atlantic Divisions

The meeting was held by conference call on Wednesday, April 12, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; David Blaney, Bates; Zeke Rauscher, Wesleyan; Austin Kotlus, WPI; John Robeleski, Vermont; Mike Smith, Rhode Island; Jim Wilson, Dartmouth; Mike Niemack, Amherst; Kerril, O’Neil, Colby.

The telephone carrier mistakenly limited the number of lines on the call. The commissioner therefore held two separate calls for the teams involved, discussing the same issues.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The North Atlantic Division unanimously voted to have the Division III Championship on 11/3-5. The New England Division had one member voting for 11/3-5 and one voting for 11/10-12.  Regarding the National Collegiate Club Championship, the teams voted unanimously to have the tournament 11/10-12.

The dates and sites were confirmed for the fall season, as originally posted on the schedule, with Yale and Amherst filling the site rotation after Middlebury and Coast Guard declined.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. The Commissioner indicated that Rhode Island had applied for membership, even though 2000 would serve as their year of suspension. Consequently, a decision will be made on their appeal when received and the membership will be polled regarding their willingness to allow them to participate.

The Commissioner noted that Division I & II institutions participating in the North Atlantic Division are ineligible to qualify for both the Division III and the National Collegiate Club Championships, since the Division only qualifies Division III institutions for the Division III National Championships. Therefore, Holy Cross and Rhode Island would need to participate in the New England Division if they desire the opportunity to qualify for post-season play.

The Commissioner reminded all members of their need to provide updated contact information before the end of the academic year. The information should include a summer phone number and address, as well as a fall address and phone number.

New York Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Wednesday, April 12, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Drew Davitian, Union; Thatch Shephard and Mike Dunning, Army; Scott Peters and Eric Dunki-Jacobs, Rochester; Jeff Dwight and Bryan Libit, Cornell; Sean Duffy, Colgate; Seth Sealfon, RIT.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Division was split between the first and second weekends in November. The Division III institutions also split on their vote for the Division III National Championship between the last weekend in October and the first in November.

The dates and sites were confirmed for the fall season, as posted on the web site. Jeff Dwight made a motion that the championship be held in an all-deep facility and the site rotate between regions annually. Drew Davitian seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Alfred, SUNY Geneseo, and New York University were mentioned as possibilities.

Northwest Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Tuesday, April 11, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; James Owens, Oregon State; Chris Engles, Washington State; Ben Gottleib, Oregon.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Northwest Division was split on the date they preferred.

The dates and sites were confirmed for the fall season, with Washington State hosting the regular season tournament October 7 & 8 and Oregon State hosting the championships October 21 & 22. A discussion included whether the division should expand to a three-weekend format and the vote was 2-1 against any change at this time, with a desire to reconsider the question next year.

Teams voted to make Washington State the site for the first tournament each season. The championships would then rotate between Washington and Oregon State, with all teams contributing an additional $100 to defray the cost of hosting the championship tournament.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Puget Sound, Idaho, and Western Oregon were mentioned as possibilities. The Commissioner stated he would get an answer from each of the schools and encouraged the membership to speak to these teams as well.

The Commissioner mentioned the request that all teams become USWP members. After some discussion, it was agreed that coaches would encourage their athletes to register, but that no requirement would be made. However, the expectation that teams would participate in the spring league, where registration is mandatory, will probably solve the issue without mandating it for this fall.

Teams agreed to increase league fees by up to $100 if necessary to help cover the costs of renting facilities for championships. Doc Zimmer from Washington also made a written request that the other Northwest team qualifying for the National Championship help split some of the pool costs. Although, no requirement was passed, coaches felt that it was a reasonable request.

Pacific Coast Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Thursday, April 13, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Jeff Bissell, Chico State; Noah Bookman, UCLA; and Mudd Mlodzianowski, Cal Maritime.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Division unanimously voted for the 11/18 weekend.

The meeting opened with a discussion about realigning the division. Jeff Bissell made a motion to realign the divisions by moving Cal Poly to the southern region.  Mudd Mlodzianowski seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

The teams discussed the membership criteria and reviewed the need for teams to be competitive with one another. In light of that fact, it was deemed that California Baptist University did not meet the membership criteria. The teams wanted to stress that they would play California Baptist in non-conference play, but they did not want it to influence their ability to qualify for the National Championship.

A discussion about expanding the number of competitive dates to three weekends was held and the teams voted unanimously to remain at two for this year.

The dates and sites were confirmed for the fall season as 10/13-15 at San Jose State and 11/3-5 at Cal State Bakersfield, pending the acceptance by the host institutions. Since the call, San Jose has declined their bid regardless of the date, and an alternate site is being pursued. We have not yet heard from Cal Bakersfield.

The format was determined to be a combined regional with all teams attending. The number of games is expected to be no more than 16, with Chico State and Cal Maritime willing to compete Friday night. Two other local teams will also be required to play Friday night. The competition will seed the top teams based on last year’s finish. Teams will play two of the top teams from the opposing region, in addition to two of the lower seeds. Overall won/loss records within each region will determine seeding for championships.

Geographic brackets will be as follows:

South                          North

UCLA                         San Jose

Cal Poly                      Chico State

Biola (maybe)            St. Mary’s

Cal Bakersfield         Cal Maritime

                                    Fresno State (maybe)

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Fresno State expressed interest and Biola is a possibility as well.

Southeast Division

Attending: Dave Williamson, Auburn University; Jonathan Dobkins, Auburn University; Brent Rosen, Tennessee; Rob Swingle, Emory; Ian Dyar, Florida; Raul Pou, Central Florida; Dan Sharadin, Commissioner

The meeting was held August 28, 2000 by conference call. The meeting began with Dan Sharadin explaining the circumstances leading up to the call. Specifically, several member teams in the Southeast Conference were concerned that the division was not going to have a competitive season and they were looking for a structure to help them organize competition. They contacted the CWPA to determine if it was possible for them to join this fall. Sharadin explained that while it was possible, it was late in the year and teams would need to move quickly for everything to be in place for the fall. He also explained that the CWPA was not the only option and that he was willing to work with them to continue in their current structure. He mentioned the advantages and disadvantages for getting involved. After some discussion, teams took a roll call vote and the consensus was to join the CWPA rather than continue with the SE conference.

The next topic concerned the sites, format, and dates for the upcoming fall season. Sharadin explained that all of the sites for the other CWPA events had already been assigned officials, but he felt that he could still locate referees to cover the events.

Teams decided to use a two-tournament format the first year, with an interest in moving to a three-tournament format in subsequent seasons. The dates were discussed and it was determined that Auburn would host the first weekend on October 7-8 and Florida the championships on October 21-22. Each team would be guaranteed four games in the regular season tournament with the number of games in the championship weekend dependent upon the final format and number of teams in the league.

Eligibility rules were discussed at length with a final conclusion that part-time students and staff affiliated with the institution could compete this year. Next year, the rule would be discussed again with the intent on limiting rosters to individuals eligible for the National Championships, namely full-time graduate or undergraduate students at the institution.

Florida mentioned that it might have a “B” team and they asked if they would be eligible. Teams voted to allow “B” teams on the condition that during the season there be no crossover between the rosters. However, should Florida qualify for Nationals, they would be permitted to use “B” team players during the National Championship.

The call concluded with Sharadin stating that he needed final commitments by Thursday to solidify a schedule. In addition, if teams were to be represented in the media guide, he would need rosters, school profile information, and a paragraph about the upcoming season from each team. He indicated he would send the schedule out by next week.

Southwest Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Wednesday, April 12, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Bradley Bishop, Utah State; Molly Heinz, Rice; Scott Mitchell, Colorado School of Mines; Steve Roberts, Texas; Zach Stinson, Texas A & M.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. Votes were taken regarding which date would be preferred. The outcome of this vote will not be determined until all divisions nationwide have voted. The Division was split between all three weekends in November.

Scott Mitchell requested that his school have the opportunity to compete in the Division III National Championship since its enrollment more closely parallels Division III institutions. The Commissioner noted that it would check with the Division III teams to determine their answer.

The dates and sites were discussed for the fall season, as proposed on the web site. The consensus among the teams was to split the regions into a Texas region and a North/West region. This would encourage more teams to join since travel costs and time would be reduced. Scott Mitchell made a motion that the competitive format would include regional competition during the two regular season tournaments, with participation at the championships optional. Teams wishing to attend championships must indicate in writing by October 1st, but there would be no penalty should teams decline the opportunity. Steve Roberts seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

The Commissioner indicated that he would pursue the additional teams to try and gain enough participation to field a Texas region. In the event that Texas is unable to have a separate region, the competition would be held as scheduled in the past.

Zach Stinson requested that the Championship move to October 20-22 and the other teams agreed to the change in date.

Coaches also discussed having an optional crossover tournament during the season that would include teams from different regions.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. Rice indicated their interest in participating, while Utah State was undecided. Baylor, Texas Christian, Wyoming, Colorado College, Texas El Paso, and Southern Utah were also mentioned as possibilities.

Mid Atlantic Division

The conference call was held 11/8/00. Teams represented: Indiana University of PA, Maria Ayers; University of Pennsylvania, Liz Greig; Penn State University, Rob Buldoc; University of Maryland, Jamie Makhorn; Bloomsburg University, Roch King; East Carolina University, Adam Gaffey; VA Tech, Tiffany Keplinger, Hayley Carpenter; University of Virginia, Erin Girard; James Madison University, Scott Finney, Kelly Hiza; Commissioner, Dan Sharadin

Competitive format was discussed and teams agreed to keep the three-tournament format used in the past. The competitive format will be determined according to the final number of teams participating. If one of the regions has four teams and the other has at least four, the division will play regionally on the first weekend, inter-regionally on the second, and a championship involving everyone on the third. If both regions have at least five institutions, teams will play regionally during both regular season tournaments, with all members attending championships on the third weekend.

Potential new members were mentioned and the list included some of the Southeast teams such as North Carolina and North Carolina State, as well as Richmond, Washington & Lee, Widener, and Lockhaven.

The commissioner noted the new rule for 2001 regarding red cards. The new rule requires an
additional game suspension. He also emphasized the need for following the dress code and
Code of Conduct.

Site rotation and league dates and sites were decided by mutual consent and listed below.

February

21-22   Championships, University of Maryland

May
4-6      Division III National Championships, University of Redlands or
National Collegiate Club Championships, Miami University of Ohio

Teams decided by mutual consent that if an institution was unable to host during the weekend, the date would take priority rather than the host. Therefore, the other members would be polled in order of their rotation, to determine if anyone within the same region was able to host. If not, the original host would have the first opportunity to retain the event on the alternate date.

Rob Buldoc made a motion that the championships must be hosted in an all-deep facility. Seconded by Liz Greig. Motion passed unanimously.

The meeting was held May 9 at 5:00 PM EDT, with a discussion concerning which teams were willing to participate this season. All teams attending the call confirmed their participation. It was also assumed Western Michigan would participate as well.

The meeting opened with a discussion about pool requirements for tournaments. Doug Reisenfeld made a motion that championships be only held in facilities that are 25 meters in length and at least six lanes wide. Motion seconded by Brian Coughlin. Motion passed unanimously.

The commissioner explained that the Midwest Division will receive the bid for the National Collegiate Club Championships next season and a site needs to be selected. Miami and Notre Dame requested the opportunity to host and both institutions made brief statements regarding their desire to host. Following the discussion a vote was taken and Miami was selected as the host institution, with the understanding that if they cannot host, Notre Dame would receive the bid.

The site and date selection was the next topic of discussion. Doug Reisenfeld made a motion to alter the current policy that awards sites based on a set rotation. He proposed that the membership decide the sites annually during the conference call. Motion seconded by Liza Zigler. Motion stalled due to a split vote.

Meredith Bowman suggested an alternative motion that maintains the current rotation for awarding sites. However, if a team was passed over during the prior season due to their inability to host for some reason beyond their control, they have the right to appeal during the conference call and request the chance to host the next season. The membership would decide the merits of the appeal and make a decision during the conference call. Brian Coughlin seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

The sites and dates were discussed and selected by the teams as Ohio University on February 3,4 and Bowling Green on April 7,8 for championships.

Meeting adjourned with no further business.

Code of Conduct.
Teams should read and follow these guidelines for the upcoming season.

A discussion took place regarding the format for the season. The consensus was to keep a two-tournament format.

Teams then discussed the season sites and dates. Mile Wallen made a motion to accept the following schedule:

March
9-11                Simon Fraser, or Curtis H.S., or Rogers H.S. (in order)

April
7-8                  King County Aquatic Center, Federal Way, WA, Championships

May
4-6                 National Championships, Miami University (OH)

The motion requires Simon Fraser to have the first opportunity to host, followed by Curtis High School (Tacoma, WA) and then Rogers High School (Puyallup, WA). The two high school venues would be secured by Mike Wallen and Washington would act as the host team in these instances, if Simon Fraser is unable to host. Genny Auyeung seconded. Motion carried.

Cliff Lascink made a motion to use a two-bracket tournament for the championship. Genny Auyeung seconded. Motion carried.

A discussion was held concerning “B” teams and both Oregon and Washington offered to place one in if Simon Fraser was unable to fulfill their commitment. Simon Fraser indicated that the championship weekend conflicts with their final examinations. Mike Wallen made a motion that Simon Fraser be permitted to compete in the league, even if they are unable to make the final weekend. In that case they would be required to pay ˝ of the league fees without any additional penalty. The remaining four teams would play in a four-game championship, with round robin competition in the first round and a first and third place game in the second round. Simon Fraser would have until January 15th to make a decision regarding their involvement. Cliff Lascink seconded. Motion carried.

The commissioner noted that the teams hosting must complete the pool reservation form located on the web site under General Information/Competitive Information. All hosts should also review the Host Requirements section found on the web site.

The Commissioner reminded everyone that it must be completed prior to the season.

The commissioner explained the process for evaluating officials and the need for teams to complete an Evaluation Form, which can be found on the web site under Officiating.

The Commissioner reminded everyone that it must be completed prior to the season.

The commissioner explained the process for evaluating officials and the need for teams to complete an Evaluation Form, which can be found on the web site under Officiating.

The commissioner explained that hotels would either be booked through an outside organization or through the office. All bookings should be completed prior to early January.

The commissioner reminded teams of their need to turn in the Media Guide Information before January. This includes rosters with cap numbers, a paragraph about your team, and any updated school profile information. All required information is described on the web site under latest news.

A discussion was held about the date for the National Championships. The Commissioner indicated a survey would be issued this season to solicit input from all of the teams. Changes to the championship will be made from information received in this survey.

The Commissioner reminded all members of their need to provide updated contact information before the end of the academic year. The information should include a summer phone number and address, as well as a fall address and phone number.

Southwest Division

The meeting was held by conference call on Wednesday, November 29, 2000.

In attendance: Daniel Sharadin, Commissioner; Jeff Whitmore, Arizona; John Riess, Colorado State; Justin Siglow, Northern Arizona; Heather Barker, Colorado School of Mines; Molly Heinz, Rice; Pascal Cohen, Texas; John Ryan, Trinity; Martin Green, Trinity; Katie Evans, Baylor.

The commissioner noted the new rule for 2001 regarding red cards. The new rule requires an additional game suspension. He also emphasized the need for following the dress code and Code of Conduct located on the web site. Teams should read and follow these guidelines for the upcoming season.

A discussion was held regarding the pros and cons of dividing the membership into two separate divisions. Pascal Cohen made a motion that the Texas region split from the Southwest Division and form a Texas Division. John Riess seconded. Motion carried.

John Riess made a motion for the Southwest Division to use the three-tournament format. Heather Barker seconded. Motion carried.

Pascal Cohen made a motion that the Texas Division use the three-tournament format. Molly Heinz seconded. Motion carried.

Teams then discussed the season sites and dates, establishing the following schedule:

March             Texas                                      Southwest
3-4                  CO State or AZ State           Baylor
24-25              CO State or AZ State           TBD, possible Palo Alto College or Rice

April
7-8                  Northern AZ                           Texas A & M  Championships

May
4-6                 National Championships, Miami University (OH)

Southwest schedule notes:

The teams noted that all of the sites are tentative until pools are confirmed. Since Arizona State was not on the call and a potential conflict with a previously scheduled tournament may exist, this date and site are tentative. Likewise, Colorado State will be working to get the Epic pool since it meets all-deep criteria. They will have first priority with the dates to ensure one tournament remains in Colorado. Should AZ State be unable to host on a satisfactory date, Arizona would be the alternate site.

Texas schedule notes:

The March 24-25 site for the Texas Division will depend upon Trinity’s ability to gain access to another college facility. Pascal Cohen at Texas agreed to help run the event with Trinity. If unsuccessful, Rice University would serve as an alternate site.

The commissioner noted that the teams hosting must complete the pool reservation form located on the web site under General Information/Competitive Information. All hosts should also review the Host Requirements section found on the web site.

The members on the call discussed which institutions might possibly join next season. UNLV, Tulane, Southern Utah, and Utah were listed as possibilities.

The Commissioner reminded all members of their need to provide updated contact information before the end of the academic year. The information should include a summer phone number and address, as well as a fall address and phone number.

It was determined that both the Southwest and Texas Divisions needed additional time. Therefore, the Commissioner agreed to arrange an additional conference call for both divisions. A new time will be released within the week. The issues to be addressed include finalization of sites and the format for a five-team championship.
