Board of Review

Confidentiality

The content of all discussions is confidential and may not be shared with other coaches, referees, administrators, etc. This protects the Board Members from unwarranted criticism and ensures the integrity of the process.

Grounds for Board of Review

Board of Review issues pertain to professional and Code of Conduct violations. Not all violations or problems will go to a Board of Review. Some issues are dealt with directly by the Commissioner and others may go straight to the Board of Directors.

Membership

The Board of Review’s purpose is to ensure fairness, primarily in the area of coach/athlete – referee relationships. Consequently the Board is comprised of two referees selected by the Director of Officials, two coaches elected by the membership, and one administrator elected by the membership. Term of service is one year and can be renewed without limit.

Process
The process begins with a request from an authorized party. This includes CWPA school administrators, CWPA Staff, CWPA Board of Directors, CWPA Technical Committee members, and CWPA referees. The CWPA Staff then gather the facts, allowing the accused an opportunity to provide a statement. Once completed, the material is forwarded to the Board of Review by email, along with a recommendation from the Commissioner. Board Members examine the material and send any comments by email. On more complex issues or ones that might set a precedent, a conference call is arranged. In every case, Board Members always have the right to ask for a call. Once the Review is completed a recommendation is made to the Board of Directors for their evaluation. Normally they will endorse whatever is presented, but they are not bound to do so. They may ask the Board of Review to reconsider or they may modify the recommendation directly.

Authority

The Board of Review has no authority and serves as part of a review process that recommends a course of action to the Board of Directors.
